Jonas Kaufmann - Withdraws From Second Met Performance

The star tenor Jonas Kaufmann has withdrawn from Saturday’s sold-out matinee performance of “Carmen” at the Metropolitan Opera, citing illness — meaning that Mr. Kaufmann, who was scheduled to sing only two performances there this season, will miss both.

Yonghoon Lee, the tenor who substituted for Mr. Kaufmann after he withdrew from Wednesday night’s performance, planned to do so again on Saturday.

Mr. Kaufmann’s New York fans will apparently have to wait until next season to hear him again: He is scheduled to star in the full run of a new production of Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” at the Met opposite the soprano Kristine Opolais.
